... or "Vägen
ut", which is its original Swedish title, is a serious comedy about a social
experiment in one Sweden's worst prisons. A young, unemployed actor, who is temporarily
appointed as a social worker of a group of hardened criminals, manages to persuade the
prisoners and the prison authorities that they should support his idea of producing a play
outside the prison walls. However, the project develops into something quite different from what both the
prisoners and the prison authorities had expected.
The role of the young man is
performed by Björn Kellman from "Adam and Eve" and "The Good Will",
and the director, Daniel Lind Lagerlöf, was the assistant director of Bille August and is
known for his part in the TV-series "The Archipelago Doctor".
The film is very popular in
Sweden, especially because of its dark humour. But also because the film was inspired by
the real breakthrough that took place some years ago, when the famous Swedish dramatist,
Lars Norén, used real prisoners as actors in a play outside the prison. The last of the
runaways was arrested in South America several months later.
